The department of transportation is considering passing a law that would require travel agencies to reveal who their preferred suppliers are.  This would be a great law, here’s why.  Every travel agency has preferred suppliers with whom they have negotiated higher commissions or bonuses for promoting and pushing their products before others.   And when a customer asks for a suggestion or recommendation of course the agent is going to suggest someone from their preferred supplier list.  In some cases agents almost refuse to sell any product from someone not on their list, for example if you walk into a AAA Automobile Club and want to book a Carnival cruise you will have to practically beg them to do it, if you can get them to do it at all.
By knowing who an agency’s preferred suppliers are maybe a little more encouraged to give fair and honest opinions and suggests.
