Viking who is know for their river cruises has placed an order with a French ship builder for for two 888 passenger luxury vessels which are scheduled to be delivered in the spring on 2014 and 2015. The ships will sail the Mediterranean and will have 444 cabins and 444 crew members.
Viking has not released any other information about the upcoming itineraries or the new ships. With cruise lines focusing on mega ships and passengers concerned about getting lost in the crowds, this could be a great opportunity for Viking. There may be a huge market for small ocean cruise ships.
With the smaller ships they also can get into ports that are too small for the larger ships. So the possibility for unique itineraries is very good. I am very excited to see what Viking comes up with.
