If you have do any traveling you know how boring and expensive it is to hang out at an airport.  But every once in a while you get lucky and you find something for free.  So what can you get at an airport for free?
Free Movies and Video Games
Singapore Changi
At Singapore’s Changi airport, terminal 3 there are movie theater screens that play big name Hollywood movies you can watch for free.  The movies play 24 hours.  Terminal 2 has free Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 gaming systems and if you want to watch your own movies, ther is free wi0fi throughout the airport, as well as 500 free internet kiosks.   

Free iPads
JFK Airport New York
At JFK Airport terminal 3 has been deemed the worst terminal in America and plans are in the works to be demolish it.  Until this happens Delta has installed 200 iPads at restaurants near the gate areas for passengers to use to order food.  But you can also surf the web, check your email and stream video on them. 

Library
Amsterdam – Schiphol
The Dutch love to read so it only made sense to put a library in the airport.  The library is a showcase for Dutch culture with Dutch literature, music and even its own Twitter feed.  There are also 25 iPads available for use as well.


Skype Calls
Tallinn, Estonia
Skpye, which was originally written by Estonian programmers, is available for free at Tallinn’s airport.  Video chat booths can be used to make unlimited, free video calls anywhere in the world.  There are also 14 free internet kiosks where you can hookup your laptop and get free wi-fi.

Airport Tour
San Diego
On the second and fourth Thursday and Friday of the month guided tours are given of San Diego’s airport and airfield, including areas out on the tarmac.


City Tour
Taipei Taoyuan, Taiwan
Free city tours are offered by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau in the morning and afternoon of Taipei from the Airport.  During the morning tour you will visit the ancient temple and a pottery making center while in the afternoon tour guests will visit another temple, Taiwan’s tallest skyscraper and the home of Taiwan’s President.

While a number of airports have children’s play areas O’Hare’s Terminal 2 Kids on the Fly exhibit is unique.  The 2000 square foot, airport themed play area has a play helicopter, airplane, check-in counter and a collection of giant Legos. 


Coffee and a Shower

Some people may be put off by the thought of taking a shower at an airport but if you have been traveling for a long time an hot shower may be too good to resist.  Don’t forget to bring a towel in your carry on and while the shower is free you will have to put a little something in the vending machine for the toiletries.  Coffee is offered free at various stations throughout Terminal 2.

A Little Culture

The airport has a cultural museum and throughout the airport is a number of free cultural attractions.  At one of the attractions you can dress up in traditional clothing and have your picture taken.  At another location you can make your own Korean handicraft.
